MISSION
Inspired by the spirit of collegiality, openness, and diversity, the Tampa Bay Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies, Inc (T-BIPS) offers training programs, workshops, seminars, and discussion groups to clinicians and academicians interested in learning more about psychoanalytic ideas. TBIPS also provides community outreach via The Veterans Family Initiative, Inc (VFI) and an interface with the arts through events and discussions of local theater productions, films, literature, and television.
TBIPS is a not for profit organization incorporated in 2005 with the dual mission to 1) provide expert mental health services to populations who cannot usually afford them [please click on 'Donor Opportunities' for details on how you can help], and 2) to train mental health professionals in the in-depth form of psychotherapy known as psychoanalysis [please click on 'Application for Training' or 'Course Registration Form' for details on how you can learn with us].
PHILOSOPHY
Understanding that the capacity to think analytically best develops in an atmosphere of inquiry, open dialogue, and active participation, TBIPS seeks to integrate these values into our structure and into the process of training. Collaboration and mutual respect for the contributions of faculty, candidates, and participants infuses our endeavors.
TRAINING PROGRAMS IN PSYCHOANALYSIS AND PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
TBIPS training programs represent the most current, up-to-date theories in psychoanalytic thought. TBIPS embraces pluralism and emphasizes a comprehensive contemporary view of psychoanalysis within the context of a mutually shared and respectfully open paradigm between faculty and candidates. We offer a multi-cultural and theoreticlaly diverse faculty, including, but not limited to, expertise in Intersubjectivity, Relational Psychoanalysis, Self Psychology, Object Relations, and Attachment Theory. Our teaching style is student focused, engaging and encouraging candidates to think critically about psychoanalytic concepts. TBIPS offers the opportunity for dialogue between varying schools of thought.
TBIPS offers an innovative curriculum that allows psychoanalytic psychotherapy / psychoanalytic candidates and students to participate together in didactic courses. The psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalytic programs are distinguished only by type of their supervisory cases, individual personal treatment, and by length of didactic study. Additionally, all courses at TBIPS may be taken individually or as part of the certificate program in psychoanalytic psychotherapy or psychoanalysis. Didactic courses, personal therapy, and clinical case supervision make up the certificate programs. Long distance learning options are available, as are flexible payment plans and tuition 'work study' scholarships. The Robert Silverman Supervision Stipend is also available to select psychoanalytic candidates.
